Earlier this year, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s staff reached out to seek our assistance in addressing the growing need for children to find permanent placement in loving families in our state. In response, we established the Governor’s Task Force on Adoption and Foster Care in May to outline issues those respective communities face and establish strategies to address them. On October 27th we hosted and presented our initial findings at the first Governor’s Summit on Permanency in Placement.

The Governor’s Summit on Permanency in Placement was attended by more than 50 stakeholders, including our task force, the Governor and Lt. Governor, Palmetto Family board members, state lawmakers, and many others.

Moving forward, we will be working with the Governor, state agencies, foster care ministries and churches to bring about positive outcomes for children in foster care and those seeking adoption. We are expanding the work of the Task Force and bringing practical solutions to the forefront at a subsequent series of Governor’s Summit meetings, the next being December 16, 2021.
